What's the best Final Fantasy in your opinion?
Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
Of the ones that have already been released (no Versus 13 or Agito 13 in the poll because of that) which Final Fantasy game is your favourite and why? Are you still stuck in the "FF7 cliché" or do you actually prefer other Final Fantasy? Share with us your thoughts and convince the members that your Final Fantasy is the best one!
Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
For me, the best Final Fantasy ever made was FFXII.
I agree, the story isn't the usal AND boring romantic one. It focus on war and its horrors and the story is a very mature one. I also agree that the characters development could have been better.
Ashe is my favourite FF girl because she's gorgeous (in the cinematics), her outfit is cool and her personality may seem cold but she's actually kind and determinated. Balthier is probably the coolest character in any FF. Cocky as no other character but a true gentleman and he totally deserves the "leading man" title. Vaan isn't THAT lame. I don't know why everyone is always mocking the poor boy.
The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is a total new and cool feature! I was getting sick of having to run around in circles to get in a battle where the monster actually WAITS for you to attack (where in heaven would a monster wait for the enemy to attack?). The scenarios are beautiful as well as all the little details. The amazing sidequests and hunts can keep us playing the game for more than 200 hours (like I did). The amount of weapons each character can use is HUGE!
I didn't like the Esper system because we have actually time to summon (this feature was removed in the International Version of the game, I think) and the fact that our characters can all have the same magics which make them the same (in the International Version of the game, each character has to have 2 different jobs). The Quicknenings were epic but the fact that they cost MP was a little stupid.
For me, FFXII is worth of a 9.3 ^.^

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
I agree with what you said about FFXII. It's one of the best! And Balthier deserves to be "the leading man" :) At first, I didn't like it 'cuz there wasn't that kind of stories like the previous FF: a couple (like RinoaxSquall and YunaxTidus) who's trying to help the others and in the end they find their in love. But later in the game, I find it more than interesting cause it bases the story on the political situation in the countries which is awesome and more advanced for a FF :) And the battle system, like you said, is different which gives you more ways to have fun: Espers, Quicknenings, Gambits, ... And having the opportunity to change your characters during the battle is a new one cause in the others you were not allowed. (and the game is over when the entire party is down)
But, even I really like FFXII, my best is FFX. The story is catchy, the first "modern" FF. I just love it =) I found myself into Yuna and were pretty similar. Even FFXII is more way better created than FFX, FFX have always that -something- :)

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
I think none of the others matches with FF7. Loved the fighting, weapon and materia system. A great story, with a villian that you dont only hate but actually feel some sympathy for.
The characters are great and I don't think any of them are over-the-top. Some chars in other final fantasy games are just corny, too cute, too bad ass and so on. All the characters were well thought over and had a little story of their own and a believable background.(( I think all my favorites chars are in this one, except Rinoa and Edea))
This is sort of the last final fantasy game were they focused on the plot (save the world) instead of the love story, wont be able to speak for XII, since I have only played like 2h of it. After 7 the love story in the game have been taking over more and more. Dont get me wrong I like love, but the focus should still be on the saving world part.
The amount of "side-quests" are well balanced and not too many.
The music were awesome aswell and the graphic was during that time one of the best.
This is the game that actually got me into gaming.
Second I think FF9 or FF8 which I really enjoyed aswell.

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
I actually loved about FF7 that many parts were open for your own interpretation. Like which girl did Cloud like? Did the humans survive the meteor in the end? And so on :)

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
FF7
I absolutely adore FF7, although it wasn't my first to directly play, but I remember watching my cousins play it and name the characters after each of us xD When I got back to it years after, I remembered the music and the graphics... then it was all fireworks
FFX
My first FF to finish was FFX
I was so hooked that I cried at the end T_T (no suprise there)
but I was annoyed that Tidus was left unamed.... you should leave all the names or none of them...
FFX-2
FFX-2 was ok! but the story finishes with FFX for me, I just hate it when you know the ending isn't definately a certain way ):
FFVIII
Looks promising! I'm playing it currently... well... not AT the moment, but I'm midway the story... I think!
FFXII
I really got frustrated with this one, but agreed with ashe12mariana the themes were different, and for a while (before I was irritated XD) I was well into the story... I shouldnt have stopped midway, but I did... and it ruined the game! T_T
Dissidia
I'm the slowpoke XD need to get on my psp and finish it already! It looks amazing.. and I'm loving playing as Onion Knight XD though Cloud will forever be a fave :]
Overall, my favourite has to be the FFVII series
I'm just too in love with the characters and story XD

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
FFVII
I played this MUCH later and was headbanging myself yelling "WHY didn't I play it sooner?!" cause at the very first day when I turned on the game I was like "lame graphic" and turned it off and didn't touch it for few years, I wanna ride the time machine and threaten the past me to play it XD
cause I LOVED the story, characters were awsome >.< I loved all the miniquests, and music >.< however, like I said above, graphics could have been much better OTL but at the time I'm sure it was the best they could do....Not to mention Crisis Core(which I cried out my eyes at the end), Advent Children(I know it's not a game but......I just LOVED it too much XD), Dirge of Cereberus(I....liked that it showed Vincent's past in depth but that's pretty much it for DoC...D=)
FFVIII
I loved how this game focused so much on Romance >.< Unnfortunately I couldn't play the game but I watched the whole walkthrough, and the whole time I was watching it I'm like ">.< Awwww...." in so many different tones. I really loved the story too.
FFIX
Someone told me that FFIX was the worst final fantasy story-wise, however after watching walkthrough(I couldn't play this game either T^T) to the ending I was like "who the heck told me this is the worst ff?" cause whoever that someone was, s/he was DEAD WRONG!!! I also noticed that people complained about ffix being chibi, but I totally forgot about that because I was so absorbed in story and setting and characters, that didn't bother me at all.
FFX
scenes were eye candies +_+ sooo pretty graphics (though compared to inportant cutscenes, in-game cutscenes graphics weren't so great...) I loved the story once again. I actually played FFX to the end and I loved it.
FFXII
I'm playing the game RIGHT now, I planned to buy this game and play this from long ago so I avoided watching amvs regarding to ffxii just for this >.< right now I'm in the tower trying to get sun-cryst. I really like to raise the characters skill-wise =D
so many bosses though....x_X and they talk......in old english?? I don't know what english they speak but sometimes I have trouble understanding them. I squeal everytime Ashe sees Rasler as ghost form >.< can't wait to watch the ending for this game =D
FFXIII
I didn't watch to the endings yet(yes I'm watching everysingle cutscenes in Japanese cause I know I can't buy PS3) but this game looks GREAT! I'm a little confused on battle systems but I'm LOVING how the characters are shaping out and relationships between the characters^^ However I'm a bit sad to see that SnowxLightning is no where to be seen T^T Graphics are tremendous even in-game scenes >.< I love the story! (I can't say much cause that would be spoiler)
Dissidia
yes, story is cliched and I LOVE it +_+ every single ff heroes in one place >.<
yay! And I got to hear Zidane & Squall's voices. I liked how you can fight different villians (it wasn't Tidus vs Jecht ALL the way, he fought some different villains through) and reasons for it =D
I never played nor watched X-2 so I can't say anything =D
FFVII's my TOP favorite >.< but it looks like FFXIII is coming up to be my next top favorite cause I just love Lightning too much >.<
Oh god, I wrote too much O_O Sorry everyone >.<

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
I think this should be in the Games section.
Anyways;
FF3 - 4/10
I think that game is really unoriginal. I mean, a magic crystal chooses you to save the world from the darkness and you're an orphan. And then you team up with the other chosen ones who are orphans too. Cheesy, am I right? Also the gameplay was pretty dull, in my opinion.
FF7 - 8.5/10
It's a good game. In fact, it's my second favorite FF. ;D I really liked the gameplay, storyline, and characters. The only thing that I didn't like was the graphics; they looked like a bunch of Legos. xD
FF8 - 1/10
My god, this game fails. Very badly. I hated the Draw and Junction system. D< It pissed me off. I also hate how you have to constantly save Rinoa (I also hate her personality). I hate the other characters too, except for Seifer, Edea, and Quistis; they're acceptable. Plus I think it's a total ripoff of FF7.
FF9 - 8/10
FF9 is also a good game. It is my 3rd favorite FF game. I really liked the gameplay and storyline. But I wasn't too keen on the characters though. However, I do like Vivi and Zidane.
FF10 - 9/10
Best FF game. EVAR. It is nearly flawless. I loved almost everything about it. The only thing I disliked about it was the sphere grid but that didn't bother me too much.
FF10-2 - 6.5/10
It was a fun game. But horrible storyline and concept. And Rikku wasn't as cool as she was in FF10. D: Plus I didn't really liked Yuna in X-2.
FF12 - 6/10
I think the game was boring and SO LONG. Dx The storyline was interesting at first but after you save Ashe in that airship, it got pretty boring afterwards. And the graphics are nearly flawless. It would have been perfect if Vaan's chest didn't look so fake. :| But I really liked Vaan, Balthier, Fran and Penelo. c:

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
Well, my favorite one is FF X: it has voices, great cg scenes, fantastic music, nice characters, interesting designs, good story and Rikku :D
Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
I think my all time fav would be Final Fantasy VII. There is so many ways you could interpret it and the storyline can relate to the real world today. Think about it, all these power stations taking away the planets resources which is adding to future problems, FF7 just tells it in a unique and awe-inspiring way. The characters of the game are easy to relate to as well. Although there are a few characters whose complexity is what makes us want to know more about them more, and to think about the story and to think of our own stories which could match them. People like Vincent and Genesis are good examples of characters which FFVII have with require your own imagination to understand. Thats what I like about FFVII, it has much more thinking involved and the story is relatable in some ways.
My other favourite would have to be FFVIII. Yes its a love story, but its more than a love story. Squall's character was great, I like his lonliness at the start and the story shows that anyone can find love, no matter who they are. Sometimes the story gets quite confusing at parts which gets you to think, but thats what I like, I want to think about the game.
I felt like some of the other FF games were a bit too predictable, and didn't get me involved as much as FFVII and FFVIII did...if you see what I mean lol

Final Fantasy VII:
Only started playing it on my old laptop, but it didn't save the files, so... I cannot say =/
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core 7/10
Pretty good game. I really like Zack, he's cool, even though I could kill him sometimes for making me fight hard monsters. Also, it[along with Kingdom Hearts] made me like Aerith [lol i got a best friend about 2-1 years ago and she made me hate her]. but some things that you have to fight... are a bit... =/ boring, sometimes a bit weird... I didn't finish it, only almost.
Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus
Only started it, hate the fight system (if there is one), so no rate
Final Fantasy VIII
same as VII
Final Fantasy IX - 10/10
BEST FF EVER!!!! I adore the story, the characters... It's so great! The only FF I finished xD It was so cute and... really sweet, I love it. I even like the quality. Compare it to VII and VIII ò.o
Final Fantasy X + X-2 8/10
Really cute. I like Yuna now xD But I kinda dislike most of the characters except Yuna. Tidus is... urgh. But I still like him xD And Rikku ;3 But it's a bit too weird and... kinda... mh.. it's just not mine xD
Final Fantasy XII
You don't want me to rate. I only started it because... I really dislike it. Well I may continue once, but until now... urgh
Final Fantasy Dissidia 9/10
8D Pretty cool! Memories come up from old games, a great idea x3

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
My Favourite Final Fantasy game is very hard to define.
The First Final Fantasy game I ever played was VII, and I fell in love with it as soon as I played it. I loved the plot, the twists, the flashbacks, the characters, the Materia system and limit breaks. However, I prefer the origional game, not CC or DoC. I tried to play DoC but I couldn't control it, shooting games are not my thing. And I've yet to play CC for lack of time & money. But I prefer Cloud over Zack, and the origional is always the greatest.
I also love Final Fantasy VIII, at one time in my life I could really relate to Rinoa with the guy whom at the time I liked, and just like the ending - They got a happy one. And so did I. (:
Anyways, I really liked the junctioning system and the Draw system for magic. It was a nice new strategy, and the characters were taller and in better proportion xD
But then I love FFVI. Those Espers wree great. And the old style play of Final Fantasy was good in the VI PS1 release in 2000. And the amount of characters in the game, the different things for each one. Like Gau's hunting method where he dissapears for a few abttles and comes back with a new skill. Class.
As for the others I haven;t really played them properly, so I guess I'm biased to say my faves are the ones that I've played the most. I couldn't choose between them though.
Final Fantasy XIII looks promising and I hope to play it as son as I can.

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
I Loooooove them all, but I would have to say Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite, it was my very first Final Fantasy and I got it when I was seven. So it's very special to me, buy I'd say my second favorite would have to be Final Fantasy 12.
I'm hoping to get 13, but I'm still not sure if Wiki's right and it's coming out on the 360 which I got for Crimmus! ^o^

I'm hoping to get 13, but I'm still not sure if Wiki's right and it's coming out on the 360 which I got for Crimmus! ^o^

FFVI, no doubts. The others are good, FFVII is great, but only VI is awesome. VI is the perfect example of "you don't need graphics, cutscenes, voice acting or excellent gameplay to make a good game and tell a good story." Besides, no other FF has characters as remarkable and originals as VI.

Yay! More VI love! n__n
IV is actually my favourite. I grew up watching my dad play it, and then playing it in turn. It is completely classic, one of the few games that I actually know inside and out, was my first FF love, and remains that way to this day. n__n It was the first one in the series that (in my opinion) had a good, solid, story with interesting characters (...I really disliked II....><), and though it might not be as amazing as the later ones, I still feel that it is a solid game. n__n
Though for arguing which FF I think is best, I'd have to go with VI. The characters and story was great, the music was amazing, and it's one of the ones where the main villain actually accomplishes what they set out to do. I know that this happens in a few of them, but Kefka is just great overall. Also, I love how the main character does find love at the end, but not in the traditional sense. It was refreshing.

I couldn't say it better. <3

FFX! I just adore it. The characters, the beautiful world of Spira, the religious side... gosh, it's just a wonderful game.

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
For me, Final Fantasy VIII will ALWAYS be my favourite Final Fantasy. I can see a lot of things wrong with it, well mainly 3 things, the level up system - where if you stay level 1, so do your enemies, pretty much, the draw and junction system - which was difficult at times, and well...to be honest, Rinoa. She was a pain in the ass at the best of times, always needing to be saved....but....
Her story with Squall was adorable, the battle system was still fun, and the leveling up wasn't too much of a problem.
I just loved the storyline so much, the different areas - there was always something urgent going on and I loved that fact. My favourite disc was disc 2, I loved escaping the prison and then going to the missile base. The Trabia Garden story, and what happens with Seifer and the story of the Orphanage are all really sad - it was a tragic romantic story and I just love those haha - Raine and Laguna make me so sad!
And finally, I adored Zell and Selphie hahah - their personalities were so bright and loud and they were my first favourite characters in FF - it was my first FF game.
VIII is followed by X, for it's stories and it's characters (I still think Auron is the best Final Fantasy character ever) - but it didn't quite have the fun factor VIII did for me.
In fact, the later games have just carried on with the serious tone and left behind the tongue in cheek nature of the earlier games (eg. VII's brothel and Cloud's transvestite adventure haha)

Are you saying his name should be pronounced that way, or shouldn't?
Because that's how I think it should be pronounced. Tee-dus just sounds stupid. >>
Anywho, I'll give my opinion on things, oh hohoho.
FFVII:
The story is pretty captivating and the characters are believable and lovable. I just think that it's been rehashed one too many times (I mean, seriously. Three games, two animes, a movie and a book?!), and I think they need to let FFVII rest, because, yes, it was amazing, but if they keep trying to do new things with it, they'll end up ruining what made it so amazing. =/
FFVIII:
I haven't played it yet, but now that I have a PS3, I'll be able to get it. From what I've seen in walkthroughs and cutscenes, I'm just not following the storyline much yet, but I don't really have an opinion.
FFX:
THIS IS MY FAVORITE FF GAME EVER.
It was the first one that I played, and they say the first one you play is probably your favorite, which is definitely true for me. I loved how diverse the characters were (no two characters were alike, which happens way too often in other Final Fantasies in my opinion - like how Fang and Lightening act a lot alike, from what I've seen). Tidus is just kind of happy-go-lucky and trying to learn things as he goes. He was just such a dynamic character through all the changes he went through. Yuna is by far my favorite Final Fantasy girl because of her determination and her will to do what she believes is the right thing, whether or not it's accepted by other people (like how Yevon banished them, and yet she still continued on her pilgrimage). Lulu is quiet, but holds the most wisdom of any woman I've ever seen in a game. Rikku is fun-loving and perky. Auron is stern, and almost fatherly towards Tidus, and guards and protects the others. And Wakka is just the guy who's there to try and be funny, but everyone knows he's really just confused. =)
Also - I liked how there wasn't ONE main enemy. I mean, you had Seymour, who just kept coming back (even though he was annoying as heck). He brought life and emotion to the plot. You had Yevon, who was masking things and twisting the minds of its people. You had Tidus' inner battle with himself over his feelings towards his father, Jecht, and all sorts of inner-conflict, especially in the sphere pool scene, when Yuna is trying to decide whether to continue her pilgrimage or not. And then you have the big baddie, Sin, but when you take it out, you find Yu Yevon! It was satisfying to know that Square could develop so many conflicts and still have a focused storyline. I sobbed and broke down in bits and pieces at the end, of course, and I don't think I'd ever displayed so much emotion for a game in my entire life. I loved it to death, and it will forever be my all-time favorite.
I liked the continuation in X-2. Seeing things from Yuna's point of view was refreshing, and it's not often in Final Fantasy where you actually get to play as a girl! The Lenne/Shuyin conflict was a really beautiful and heartbreaking story, and I was really glad that everything worked out in the end. =)
FFXII:
I'm playing this one right now (don't give me any spoilers!), and so far, it's my second favorite. I love all the characters, and I agree with everything that ashe12mariana said. It was refreshing and a good break from the general FF storyline. It was about war and death and heartache between countries and trying to restore what is right. I'm really loving it so far. =)
Sadly, I'm stuck and can't get any farther until I get un-stuck. x_x

Re: Which Final Fantasy Game is your favourite?
My favourite is FFX :D I loved the characters ((Yuna can go fall off a cliff for all I care though >.>)) especially Auron and Rikku <3 The cutscenes were amazing and I really enjoyed the storyline, which I thought was the most original of the FF's that I've played so far =3 And I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried at the ending xD
All of the others are good as well, but I also love Crisis Core, FF9 and FF5 :) Zack is adorable, and FF5 has just cracked me up so many times xDD FF9 has Vivi <3 And that's all it needed for me to love it xD
