Introduction to Asian Dramas!
Hello Asian lovers or generally just people who are new to this section, either way WELCOME! I am Sian, your Moderator for this "Asian Drama" Section, i hope you will enjoy your time here. Firstly i would like to say, the Asian culture (whether you know it or not) affects us in some way in our life, for instance...do you own a game console? If so that was produced and industrialized in Asia, resulting in our production of such things. However one thing that does make me sad is that especially in Western countries, Asian Dramas are heavily underrated and for this reason i am here ready to promote them to the fullest.
What are Asian Dramas?
This is very simple. Asian Dramas are similar to the Soaps or TV Shows that we would watch at home in our country, however of course...it has its mild differences. Despite the fact i might be stating the obvious here, they are indeed Asian, this means yes, everyone in an Asian Drama talks some form of Asian language; whether this be Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, Chinese...you get my point. DO NOT WORRY THOUGH! You will not have to learn these languages to understand the Drama, for like Anime, Asian Dramas are 99% of the time subbed.
When you have been watching Asian Dramas for as long as i have, you will adjust to the language and atmosphere it gives off. I learnt quite a lot of Korean because of Dramas! You will experience a lot of their culture within them and i can guarantee there is a drama out there for everyone.
Where can i watch Asian Dramas?
Not JUST Asian Dramas but Movies also can be found on these popular sites:
If instead you want to look at an overview of each episode through pictures on a site, here is the one for you:
Speaking of episodes, this brings me onto my next point...
How are Dramas watched?
Asian Dramas are watched through (usually) 1 hour long episodes. Asian Dramas are broadcasted very similar to how a film would be, it is introduced and given a heavy storyline. Think of Asian Dramas as one long movie. Here is a list of the most common amount of episodes you will find in certain Asian countries:
- Korean Dramas = Usually have 16-20 episodes
- Japanese Dramas = Usually have 10-11 episodes
- Chinese Dramas = Usually have 16-30 episodes
- Taiwanese Dramas = Usually have 16-100+ episodes
Of course the list does not stop there, but these are the most popular Asian countries to host dramas.
I've never watched an Asian Drama, where could i start?
Here i will give you a few suggestions to some of the most popular (and in my personal opinion) BEST Asian Dramas i have ever come to watch:
I have come to notice A LOT of newcomers to this Asian watching fest, start with this Korean Drama, despite it's 25 episodes it is a great watch and motivates those to sought out more and more Asian Dramas.
Lately i have seen an AWFUL LOT of people watching this new Korean Drama, 49 Days. As you can probably guess, Korean Dramas are the most interesting and popular to watch, as i have found out myself. Most females feel more attracted to a strong storyline and hot characters.
This being one of my absolute favorite Korean Dramas puts it into my MUST WATCH list. Iljimae is historically entertaining and the romance is unbelievable.
Another ABSOLUTE FAVORITE OF MINE, Tatta Hitotsu No Koi. This however is a Japanese Drama.
These are maybe a few to get you started, for all you newcomers new to this Asian Watching Regime.
Final bit (About the Forum)
As you may have gathered by now, this section of the Forum shall specialize in Asian Culture and Asian Culture ALONE. This will include these things:
- Asian Dramas/Movies
- Asian Music (KPOP/JPOP)
- Asian Culture
These 3 things will be KEY to beefing up this section, and i hope we can welcome in some newcomers who will become Asian Fanatics like myself. If you have read this section i highly recommend that you move onto either the "KDrama/JDrama recommendations" or "Famous Asian Actors/Actresses YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT!" Thank you<3

Re: Introduction to Asian Dramas!
All those were super interesting. *___*
I just want to say something about me. When I watched "You're beautiful.", it was enjoyable etc., but it made me feel kind of bad about myself, because I want to go to Korea etc.
Has this ever happened to you?

Re: Introduction to Asian Dramas!
@Chaii: Why thank you :3
Awwwww, this definitely did happen to me at first. A drama depicts perfection, you have to keep this in mind. What you see in a Drama is not the same as what you would experience if you really went to South Korea, Japan, etc. Everything is based on fiction (unless it states so or it is based on a specific Asian history). I'm not saying South Korea isn't beautiful, because personally i would love to go there, but what you see in Drama's holds a whole new meaning to what you would experience if you actually went to Korea.

Re: Introduction to Asian Dramas!
Yes, it is, unfortunately :3 Hmm... My fav genres are horror and romance (especially those who make you cry so, in the end, I can spread all my emotions to the main characters and say "YES! This is it!" :3)
Re: Introduction to Asian Dramas!
Oki Doki ;) What i find strange is, i don't particularly like Asian Horrors....there's something about them which freaks me out....and i don't get scared that easily XDDD So i will try and get you something Romantic wise that is emotional :) Do you want it to be extremely ball your eyes out emotional or like just a small cuts here and there of emotionalness? ;D XDDD
Re: Introduction to Asian Dramas!
Both of them are perfect for me >u< Anyone :))
Really? o.o I've watched Yu-On, and I wasn't so amazed as so many people said. But Tale of two sisters was amazing! This one really made me to watch it once again. And I will someday! :D
