Masking Help
Ok, first my background: I have masked before and it looked beautiful and the anchors moved on their own after I keyframed them each. It was a wonderful "relationship".
NOW It won't move the anchors! My masks look choppy and ugly!
Help anyone? Before I didn't change anything and it was defaults.

Re: Masking Help
Do you just want to fix the anchors some to fit the picture? If you just want to move an anchor that's already been created, go to the masking tool.
If you've just masking something, the anchor creation tool should be high-lighted on the side. Now, click the arrow on the left, and then click an anchor and move it around anywhere. (you have to click and hold btw) Hope that helps some. ^^

I realize this. I know how to mask I just am having a problem with the mask moving smoothly. When I started masking, the anchors would move keyframe to keyframe. All I would have to do is move the anchors to fit around the subject I am masking. Is there a setting to change this?
Re: Masking Help
Well, I didn't have masking too long (only for my trial version), but to make masks flow as well as possible, you have to go second by second, within the mask (on the timeline, you know) and fix the little parts whenever the character/object you mask moves. If you do every second like that, then it'll flow really well.
In my experience, that's the only way to make it move as smoothly as possible.
But anyway, you shouldn't have to create new points. You should just click on one (but make sure you don't have the "create new" or whatever tool selected; just the normal one) and be able to shift it accordingly.

Re: Masking Help
It depends on what you're trying to mask as well! If it's anime, then you should go to your settings and set the frame rate 23.976 IVTC Film.
If not, what I do to mask is mask the first keyframe, the last, and a few in the middle. Also, use feather on 2.0; anything higher looks ugly. Hope I helped some. :]

Re: Masking Help
What Laurin says.
The way I mask is by masking the very beginning then clicking the very end and moving the points in the new positions. Then click the centre and do the same and keep clicking the middle of each points and adjusting as much as you can intill your mask is smooth. But this technique tends to work better with things which don't move that much. Also, the point will be smoother if you move them vertically or horizontally. Stretching them to a completely new area diagonally will create a horrible ripple effect.
EmoLobster was the one who gave me a basis to work how to mask. And MissAlyvia told me about the rippling P:

Re: Masking Help
If you're not masking every single frame from the start to the beginning, it's good to follow what I like to call the "half way technique" - basically the technique that Gen just stated above, then reset the mask each time - for me I've always found that this avoids rippling if the clip you want to mask moves a lot.
Re: Masking Help
Thanks for all the help. I guess I am forced to mask frame by frame. Oh well. :)
Btw I use Sony Vegas Pro 9 to mask. (someone above wanted to know)
